Before a day at sea the same question always comes up: what do I need to bring? The good news is that with a boat like La Bond you don’t need much. A lot of the essentials are already included, so the trick is to bring just what matters and leave the rest at home.
What’s worth bringing
These are the things that make the difference on a day aboard:
- Sun protection. High-factor, water-resistant cream. Exposure at sea is greater than on the beach, so reapply through the day.
- Water. Bring more than you think. Sun and swimming make you thirsty; staying hydrated makes the day much better.
- Cap and sunglasses. Glare off the water is tiring on the eyes. A cap with a strap or cord so it doesn’t fly off is ideal.
- A towel. To dry off after each swim and to lie out on deck.
- A light layer. A hoodie or light windbreaker for the way back or if it cools down. It takes up nothing and you’ll be glad of it.
- Non-slip footwear. Flat flip-flops or grippy water shoes; no heels and no dark soles that mark the deck.
- A dry bag for your phone. The handiest thing of the day. It protects your phone from spray and lets you take photos without worry.
- Food and snacks. Something to nibble, fruit, sandwiches. More on where it stays cool below.
What you DON’T need to bring: already included
This is where you save weight. With La Bond, already aboard you’ll find:
- A cooler. So your food and drinks stay cold all day. No need to bring ice or your own cool box.
- A sun shade. Somewhere to shelter from the sun when it’s strong, with no parasols to carry.
- Life jackets. For everyone aboard, including the little ones.
- Safety gear. All the required equipment, checked and ready.
- A nautical map. To get your bearings and pick your spot for the day with ease.
On top of that comes the insurance (SOVI and civil liability) and, before you set off, a briefing on how to handle the boat. In other words: the serious stuff is already sorted.
For the kids and the group
La Bond takes up to 5 people and is a calm boat, ideal for a family day. For a day with children, add to your bag:
- A life jacket in their size if you have one you trust (sizes are aboard, but some prefer their own).
- A hat, a UV-protection swim shirt and cream reapplied often.
- A simple water toy or two and their favourite snacks.
And if you want more to the plan, you can add extras like SUP, snorkel, fishing gear, donut or paddle when you book.
The golden rule: light and dry
The best advice is not to overpack. A soft bag (not a rigid case) with the essentials, anything that could get wet in a dry bag, and the rest left to what’s already aboard. The less you carry, the more comfortable the day.
