The Ebro Delta is one of those landscapes that feels like it belongs somewhere else. It’s the largest wetland in Catalonia, a plain of rice fields and lagoons where water and land blur and the horizon opens right up. It impresses from land; from the sea it has something different — the coastline turns low and long, the sky takes over everything, and the water, sheltered by the delta, tends to be especially calm.

It’s a different kind of outing from the coves: you don’t come here to chain anchorages, but to enjoy a big landscape and an easy cruise heading south along the Costa Daurada.

What you’ll see

The delta is unlike any other stretch of this coast. From the boat, what strikes you most is the scale of the landscape:

  • An open horizon. The coast flattens and stretches out; where there were cliffs and towns, now there’s sand, low dunes and sky. A sense of space that’s hard to find this close to home.
  • Birds everywhere. The delta is a protected area and a key spot for birds. From the water it’s easy to spot flamingos, herons, gulls and many more, especially near the river mouths and the points.
  • Calm waters. Sheltered by the line of the delta, the water tends to be flat and gentle: perfect for relaxed cruising, anchoring and swimming far from the bustle.

This isn’t a “one cove and home” destination: it’s a place to take your time, cut the engine for a while and simply look.

A full-day outing

Let’s be clear: the delta is far. It’s a longer outing than a trip to the coves of Cambrils or Salou, so it’s built as a full day. That’s exactly the appeal: it gives you room to cruise without rushing, stop for a swim along the way and enjoy the landscape without watching the clock.

For this passage the right boat is La Niña, our 80 HP Quicksilver 505. She has the range and the push to cover the distance comfortably and leave you plenty of time at the destination.

La Niña requires a boating licence. If you hold one, you drive. If you don’t, you can book it with a professional skipper on board (an extra): we handle the navigation and plan the day heading south, and you just enjoy it.

How to plan it well

Because it’s a long outing, it pays to organise it with a bit of thought:

  • Book the full day. It’s the only way to make the passage without stress, with time to stop, swim and come back at leisure.
  • Set off early. The earlier you leave, the more room you have to enjoy the destination and return in good light.
  • Bring plenty of food and water. You’ll be out for many hours. The boat comes with a cooler, so you can pack a proper picnic on board.
  • Tell us your idea. The exact plan depends on the day. We’ll help you fine-tune the route so the day is comfortable from start to finish.

As on all our outings, the essentials are included: insurance, safety gear, a cooler, a nautical chart and a sun shade.

In short

The Ebro Delta from the sea is the outing for days when you want a big landscape, calm and an open horizon, rather than a string of coves. It’s a full-day plan heading south, tailor-made for La Niña — you at the helm if you hold a licence, or with a skipper if not.
