The doubt always comes up: you want a day at sea, but you’ve never taken a boating course and you assume that rules you out. It doesn’t. Spanish regulations let you operate certain recreational boats with no licence at all, and they’re perfect for an easy day close to the coast.
The rule, in one sentence
You can drive a motorboat without a licence as long as it has an engine of up to 15 HP and a length of up to 5 metres, sailing by day and staying within 2 nautical miles of a harbour or sheltered spot. You only need to be of legal age and carry your ID.
No exam, no course, no paperwork in advance. The condition is simply that the boat stays within those limits, and that someone shows you the basics before you set off.
La Bond: no licence, just your ID
Our La Bond is built exactly for this. It’s a 4-metre boat with a 15 HP engine, so it falls squarely into the no-licence category. You book with your ID, and before casting off we give you a 15-minute walkthrough: how to start, how to steer, how to anchor and the recommended area for the day.
From there the boat is yours: cruise the coast at your own pace, find your spot, drop anchor and swim straight off the deck. No licence, no previous experience.
What if I want a bigger boat?
Boats with more power or length do require a licence (PNB, PER…). That’s the case with La Niña, our 80 HP Quicksilver 505. If you hold the licence, you drive. And if you don’t but you want that boat, you can book it with a professional skipper on board: we handle the helm and you just enjoy the day.
What you need to book without a licence
- Be 18 or over (minors are welcome aboard accompanied by an adult).
- Your ID or passport.
- That’s it. The pre-departure briefing and safety gear are included.
In short
If you want a simple day at sea — cruising near the coast, anchoring and swimming — you don’t need a licence: La Bond covers it with just your ID. And if you want more boat, La Niña with a skipper gives you the same freedom without having to drive.
