Recreational fishing from a boat isn’t about big catches: it’s about spending the morning anchored over good ground, line in the water, while the rest of the group swims or has something on deck. It’s a relaxed, unhurried plan that pairs nicely with a normal day at sea. The coast off Cambrils has rocky and mixed-bottom areas where, with a little patience, something usually bites.

What you can catch off this coast

The Mediterranean of the Costa Daurada isn’t a sea of spectacular catches, but it gives plenty to work with for recreational fishing from a boat. Close to the coast, over rock and sand, it’s common to find:

  • Sea bream, gilthead and sea bass in the rocky and mixed areas.
  • Mackerel and horse mackerel, which bite well when a shoal comes through.
  • Comber, scorpionfish and small bream, the easiest to start with.
  • With luck and in the right spot, the odd cuttlefish or squid at mid-water.

The key is picking the right place. We’ll suggest areas for the day, but fishing is what it is: some mornings everything bites, others you just enjoy the time out.

The fishing gear, as an extra

You don’t need to bring anything: the fishing gear is available as an extra when you book. Add it to your reservation and it’s on board, ready to use. It’s a simple setup, meant for recreational fishing from a boat at anchor, not for offshore sport fishing.

If you’ve never fished from a boat, no problem: it’s one of the easiest ways to start, because you’re still, at anchor, and you just drop the rig and wait.

The fishing licence: each angler brings their own

This is the important part, and it’s worth being clear about: in Catalonia, recreational sea fishing requires a personal licence. It isn’t the boat’s licence or ours: it’s a licence each person who’s going to fish must hold.

  • It’s processed simply through the Generalitat de Catalunya and is personal and non-transferable.
  • Every angler on board who’s going to cast a line must carry their own.
  • The rest of the group can come aboard with no licence at all: only those fishing need one.

It’s a quick, cheap formality, but it has to be done before you head out. We remind you of this when you add the fishing extra, so no one is left unable to fish over a piece of paper.

A plan that pairs with everything

Recreational fishing doesn’t have to be the only plan of the day. In fact it works best as one part of a relaxed trip: you anchor over good ground, some fish, others swim, you eat something on deck and then carry on cruising. For this we recommend La Niña, our 80 HP Quicksilver 505: she takes you out to the fishing areas with ease and has plenty of deck to combine rod and swim.

La Niña requires a boating licence. If you hold one, you take the helm; if not, you can book her with a professional skipper on board (+€150), who can also point you to the best areas. Fuel is separate on this boat.

In short

A day of recreational fishing by boat in Cambrils is a relaxed plan that fits right in with swimming and cruising. You bring the fishing gear as an extra, pick a good spot and enjoy the time. Just remember: each angler needs their own personal recreational sea fishing licence, sorted before you head out.
