In summer, Cambrils fills up for good reason: great weather, wide beaches and a lively harbour. But if you only stay on land, you miss the best part. The Tarragona coast is a different experience from the water, and you don’t need to be an expert to head out. Here are the plans we recommend.

A day on the boat, the headline plan

The best summer plan in Cambrils is, without doubt, a day at sea. We’re not talking about an organised excursion with forty people: we mean your own boat, at your own pace, stopping wherever you like.

For an easy day close to the coast, La Bond is ideal: 4 metres, up to 5 people and no licence needed — you drive it with just your ID, and fuel is included. You book online, get the confirmation instantly and meet us at Club Nàutic de Cambrils. After a short walkthrough, you cast off.

If you want more range to reach the further coves, La Niña is an 80 HP Quicksilver 505; it needs a licence or a professional skipper on board.

Coves, swims and snorkelling off the deck

Once on the water, the real plan begins. You cruise the coast, pick your spot, drop anchor and swim straight off the boat. That’s the difference between hunting for room on a packed beach and having your own piece of sea.

A few ideas for the day:

  • Anchor in front of a cove and swim in clean water, away from the bustle of the sand.
  • Snorkel over the area’s rocky seabeds; you can add the gear as an extra.
  • Try the SUP, the donut or the fishing tackle, depending on the group’s plan.
  • Eat on board, at anchor, using the cooler that’s included.

It’s a plan that works just as well as a couple, a family or a group of friends. With kids on board, anchoring in a quiet cove and swimming off the boat is one of the things they remember most about the summer; and with a group of friends, the day gives you time to cruise, stop to eat and head back without rushing.

Best of all, you set the pace. There are no schedules to keep and no compulsory stops: if you like a cove, you stay; if you want to keep exploring, you weigh anchor. The boat is yours for the whole day.

Sunset from the water

If there’s one magical moment in summer, it’s sunset. And watching it from the water, with the boat at anchor and the sun dropping over the Mediterranean, is like nothing else. An afternoon outing leaves you right on time for that moment, with a calm sea and golden light.

It’s one of those plans you remember long after the holiday is over. And since the heat of the day has eased off, it’s lovely to be on the water: the sea is usually calm and the temperature perfect for one last swim before heading back to port.

And on land: harbour and food

It’s not all about being on the water. Cambrils has a charming fishing harbour, perfect for a stroll as the evening cools, and food that’s serious business: it’s one of the rice and fresh-fish capitals of the Costa Daurada. After a day at sea, a good table by the harbour rounds off the perfect plan.

Salou and l’Ametlla de Mar are close by if you fancy a change, but the summer hook stays the same: getting out on the water.

How to organise it

To make the plan work:

  • Book ahead. In July and August the calendar fills up fast.
  • Pick your slot: the morning usually has the calmest sea; the afternoon, the best sunset.
  • Bring the basics: ID, swimwear, a towel and sunscreen. The rest — insurance, safety gear, cooler, sun shade and nautical map — is included.
  • Cancel free of charge up to 48 hours before if plans change.
