Almost everyone knows Salou for its long beaches and its promenade. But there’s a version of Salou you only see from the water: the Cap de Salou, where the coast stops being sand and turns into rocky cliffs, pines hanging over the sea and small coves that don’t show up on the tourist maps. Reaching them by boat from Cambrils is one of the nicest plans on the Costa Daurada.

The Cap de Salou: the stretch that changes everything

Heading east out of Cambrils, the first beaches quickly give way to the Cap de Salou, a rocky headland where the coast turns steep and far more interesting. Here the water is clearer, you can see the bottom, and the whole feel changes: you go from busy beaches to a landscape of cliffs with pine forest right to the edge.

This is the stretch that’s best enjoyed from a boat, because many of these coves have no access on foot, or only via long trails. From the water you’ve got all of them right in front of you.

The coves to see under the cliffs

These are the stops that make the trip worth it:

  • Cala Font — one of the best known, sheltered and with good anchoring. Calm water and a castle peeking over the rock behind.
  • Cala Vinya — smaller and more tucked away, ideal for dropping anchor and swimming straight off the deck.
  • Cala Crancs — a rocky corner with crystal-clear water, perfect for putting on a mask and seeing the bottom.

The plan is simple: you cruise along the Cap coastline, pick the cove you like best depending on the day and the wind, anchor and swim from the boat. No hunting for a spot on the sand, no umbrellas packed side by side.

The skyline from the water

There’s a moment everyone has: when you pull a little away from the coast and look back, the whole of Salou appears in the distance, with its towers and its promenade, while you’re anchored in a quiet cove. That distance is exactly what makes the day special. You’re close to everything, but in your own corner.

The boat for this plan: La Niña

To reach the Cap de Salou comfortably and move between coves, the choice is La Niña, our 80 HP Quicksilver 505. It has the power to make that run easily and the agility to slip in and out of the coves at your own pace.

Bear in mind La Niña requires a boating licence to drive yourself. If you have one, great. And if you don’t, you can book it with a professional skipper on board (+€150): we handle the helm and you focus on enjoying the day, the swim and the coves.

Everything that matters is included on board: insurance, safety gear, a cooler for your drinks, a nautical map and a sun shade. Fuel on La Niña is separate. If you’d like to add snorkel gear or fishing tackle, you add it when you book.

How to plan the day

  • Book online with instant confirmation and card payment.
  • You depart from the Club Nàutic de Cambrils, a short cruise from the Cap de Salou.
  • Free cancellation up to 48h before, in case plans change.
  • Check the day’s forecast and pick your coves by the wind: the Cap has corners for almost any direction.

Salou has plenty to offer from land, but from the sea you understand it differently. If you fancy seeing the Cap de Salou and its coves at your own pace, take a look at La Niña and pick your day. Questions about the route or the skipper? Message us on WhatsApp before you book.
